Maybe not as tight as I would like, but the glue shrinks some too. They've shown no issues in this area. I do not think you can get a production, roto-molded, plastic "rec" kayak for less than 40 lbs and they won't paddle nearly as nice. Dry Weight 40lbs 18kg Approx. Stem Stock white ash and white cedar you bend to make inner and outer stems. Cherry darkens pretty quickly in bright sunlight. The biggest complaint was that it could n.. If I can get the fit right, I will make them more shapely and use them. Probably the worst problem would be not having adequate flats on the stems for the strips to bond to, but if you've done a good rolling bevel on the stems and checked with a batten to the next few forms, you're probably doing just fine. During this period, if the nights stay cold enough, you can get your canoe trip in and not be harrassed at all by the little buggers. So, I guess I will either make a new stem form using the stem profile of the canoe, bend new stems on the outside of my new outer stem laminations, or come up with a way to bend the outer stem right on the canoe.
A few years ago, most of the S-glass, carbon fiber, kevlar and hybrid cloths were all disappearing down that rabbit hole. This is similar to what I had in mind. Due to the relative weakness of the spring clamps and the challenges of working with the cedar strips, I decided to place one at a time. There's two reasons for this - you don't want a glossy interior it's blinding and it is slippery as all get-out. Speaking of gap filling, I doubt I will get through this without at least some minor gap filling. A bubble roller is a small metal roller, like a paint roller with grooves on it. Weighing in at about lbs, I think he is slightly more suited for the canoe.
